For their third day in Chengdu, Cassy and Ellery, two adventurous GlobalYouth au pairs, spent the day exploring the city’s chic urban landmarks, artistic hotspots, and vibrant street food scene. From stylish shopping districts to stunning night views, and some of the best local snacks in the city, Day 3 was filled with discovery, relaxation, and flavor.
Morning: Taikoo Li and the IFS Panda Sculpture
The day kicked off in Taikoo Li, an upscale shopping and cultural district in Chengdu. Known for its seamless blend of modern architecture and traditional Sichuan-style elements, the area is the perfect place to explore the city’s contemporary vibe. Cassy and Ellery wandered the trendy streets, taking in the blend of vibrant shops and tranquil courtyards.
The highlight of the morning was a visit to IFS Chengdu, home to the famous giant panda sculpture. Standing proudly on the side of a skyscraper, the panda became an instant photo op. Both Cassy and Ellery couldn’t resist posing for pictures, appreciating how the artwork captured Chengdu’s lively spirit.
Afternoon: Dongjiao Memory and the GlobalYouth Office
In the afternoon, they visited Dongjiao Memory, a creative park built from the site of an old industrial area. This cultural hub is filled with vibrant murals, sculptures, and quirky architecture, giving it a dynamic, artistic vibe. The perfect place to stroll, take photos, and get inspired, it offered a peaceful break while exploring Chengdu’s artistic side.
The next stop was the GlobalYouth Au Pair office, where the duo met with the team behind their cultural exchange experience. They had a chance to share their journey, exchange stories with the staff, and see how GlobalYouth helps au pairs from around the world connect with host families in China.
Evening: Delicious Bites and Dazzling Views
As the evening approached, Cassy and Ellery indulged in some of Chengdu’s famous street food, beginning with LeShan fried skewers, a local favorite. The skewers, coated in spices and fried to perfection, were the perfect introduction to Chengdu’s culinary world. They sampled a variety of other local snacks all of which were bursting with flavors unique to the region.
After their delicious feast, the duo continued their exploration of the city’s night scene. They visited The Tower of Life and the Twin Towers, two stunning landmarks that lit up the city skyline with vibrant colors. The glow of the towers was the perfect backdrop for a memorable evening in Chengdu.
Reflections on Day 3
Day 3 was all about enjoying Chengdu at a slower pace while exploring its culture, art, and food. From the modern charm of Taikoo Li to the creative vibes of Dongjiao Memory, and the stunning views from The Tower of Life, Cassy and Ellery had a perfect mix of exploration and relaxation. The evening’s street food adventure, topped off by the beauty of the city’s skyline, was the cherry on top of their day.
